Layer upon luscious layer

Forward thinking a little bit, I can’t wait to start wearing cardigans again. I didn’t start wearing cardigans until about 2 years ago which coincided with the ruffle trend. It’s strange how this item that was considered staid and old became fresh again so quickly. I see women wearing cardis even now when it’s mid-80s and humid to high heaven. They must have very low body temperatures or something. Yesterday in-store I saw a display featuring Sparrow’s Frilled & Thrilled Cardigan ($88) layered over the…

Organized Chaos Tank ($78) and thought ‘hmm, this is an interesting combination of patterns. I must try it!’ I’m not sure if it’s clear from the product shot but the stripes on the cardigan are a wine color and it really pulled out the low tones of the tank well. My Intro to Poli Sci professor first semester of college called the American Political system organized chaos so to see that in clothing form helped the tank stick out in my mind.

Here’s the real life effect. (I know I’ve gone from 0 to 80 with the IRL shots!) I was surprised that the cardigan actually looks halfway decent! I figured that it would jut out at the hips creating the oh-so-flattering pear. But not too bad. I tried both tops in a medium. There was no pulling at the buttons of the cardigan and the ruffle wasn’t overwhelming. The sleeve length was good — long enough to cover my wrists without too much extra material. I liked the look best with the cardi open. The tank, by Weston Wear, was comfortable with straps thick enough to fit a bra underneath but not so thick as to create broad shoulders. All in all another display outfit I love.

Soho Anthro totally confused me yesterday. In just one overnight they’d managed to re-organize most of the store layout! So one outfit I’d seen two days ago was separated. I couldn’t find one of the components to try on again. They had so much new stuff out though that I’m not even a bit upset. I’m not totally sure on the pieces here but I’m going to take an educated guess. Pretty sure the outfit was comprised of the Tie-Front Cardigan above ($78) by Moth…

…and C. Keer’s Festival Stripe Tee ($78) I think. I kind of remember the top having a slightly different look but I couldn’t find anything close in the store yesterday so I’m not 100%. I was suprised by how well the layers paired. With a pair of cigarette jeans and cute ballet flats the outfit would be a simple stunner. I struggle with the Tie-Front Cardigan because I wonder if it would look like a robe on but each time I see it displayed as part of an outfit I really like it.

The outfits I saw got me interested in what else Anthro has to offer at the moment. Chloe has a post right now asking what trend return you dreaded at first but have come to embrace. My answer on the post was rompers, but I think I’ve changed my mind to capes. They are the perfect toss-on layer for chilly days. The buttons on the Abundant Wrap ($88) above make me happy. It reminds me of an old J.Crew sweater I’d always wear horseback riding that had thick cables and a turtleneck. In fact just seeing this cape makes me think of trail rides. Want. Some additional temptations are below.

Thank you for the "in real life" photos. They really help me understand how the clothes should look. It is hard when you look at the website and the clothes are shown on mannequins. I like the cape. I am surprised, but it is so cute. Love the big riband the buttons. The only problem is, I have trouble looking at fall and winter clothes when it is still summer. I hate to buy something for fall, put it on the closet, then it mocks me for several months.

Have you tried on the Reposing Cloud Cardigan? I remember someone mentioning here that they needed to size down.
