Before I get into the meat of this post, I have a bit of anecdote. This weekend I learned something new about New York City. I learned that while an admittedly strong girl like me can carry a 45 lb. full-length mirror to the Bed, Bath & Beyond cash register by herself, Bed Bath & Beyond will still charge said girl double the normal delivery fee to deliver it because it is a 2-man job. Two men…but just one chick. Who knew? $99 minus $20 from a 20% off coupon plus $15 normal delivery fee plus extra $19 delivery later…I own a full-length mirror again! I haven’t had one since I moved down to NYC because I haven’t had room to be far away enough to get my whole body in frame. Now I do.
I’ve mostly avoided IRL shots on this blog because I am not a size 2 or 4 and clothes don’t look the same on me as they do on the models (duh, I know). Instead I present to you how clothing looks on a curvy, slightly pudgier figure. I live in a city with many wonderful things but also enough body dysmorphia to throw any sane person over the ledge. Which is my polite way of saying your mileage may vary as to how these items will look on you. I’m still working on getting the lighting right — please bear with me as I figure this stuff out. I will link to any product that is available online as of posting date.
Shoes: J.Crew patent heels in dusty rose
I was very excited when the Wildbloom Skirt went on sale (thanks to the Anonymous tipster on this post!). I ended up ordering it in a size 10, one size above my normal size so it would sit lower on my hips. My endless dilemma with bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts, kilts…whatever) is that while I’m not super tall at 5’8″, my legs are long with a 35″ inseam. I am pretty happy with the length of this skirt though 1/2 inch longer wouldn’t be bad either.
The product photo on Anthro’s site is true to color. This Marimekko skirt is very vibrant in navy and pink and green and white. I just wish the pattern lined up better at the side seams. Up near the waist it has some darting and this can create a small pooch when sitting. But while standing the shape is a streamlined a-line. Love this skirt.
Skirt: Gap Denim slant-pocket pencil skirt in grey
Shoes: Steve Madden Shakeup heels in silver
I get to be the first to say that you have a great figure!
You look fabulous !
as a fellow new yorker, i hear you on the body dysmorphia. but i think you look great!thanks for the tip on the GAP… love that skirt 🙂
I love it when you take IRL pictures. Not only do you have a great figure (man, will you give some of it to me?) but I really like seeing how clothes look on others. You don't have to be a twiggy size 0 or 2! Not at all. I think you should post more pics. You always look great. :DI love love LOEV that skirt and lucky you for finding one of those ATL tees! I keep meaning to go to the actual store to look- it sold out online so fast. 🙁
Love the skirt on you!
You look great! Love the IRL pics :)I have the same hesitations as you when posting. . . I'm in Cali and don't even get me started on body image stuff out here, lol!
You look fantastic! Folks like you who have curves provide great reference for those of us who are not a size 0, 2 or 4. Thanks for posting!!
Thanks ladies. 🙂
That rose tee looks great on you! Also, are you a fan of Anthro on FB? I recently saw they have an page on there.
Um, pudgier than what exactly? You look great!! Better than me for sure and I have no shame posting dressing room pictures 😉 I'm glad to see you doing IRL reviews now!
