I wanted to see how the sale section was shaping up in-store, so I headed to the Anthropologie at 16th St/5th Ave on Saturday. It was nuts in-store. Much more crowded than any other store I hit besides Banana Republic. The photo above was the line for the dressing rooms. I waited probably 25 minutes to try stuff in. Devoted are we all.
I tried very hard to be good. I breezed straight downstairs, telling myself I was focused solely on sale stuff. But the sale section was pretty disappointing. Soho had a much better selection and more items marked down. I felt like Flatiron was the same items I had seen 3 weeks ago. The only items even worth mentioning were the California Iris Dress (now $89, no longer online) which was still a pass and the Looped Aster Tank (now $40) which I own in white and am strongly considering in orange.
So on to the new items after all! Let’s start with the Wildbloom Skirt ($98), a drool-worthy skirt from Marimekko. How I love that brand. My Marimekko bath towels have been mine since I was a baby, purchased by my parents on a trip to Paris. Their bold prints are instantly recognizable. I tried on the skirt in an 8 and it was a bit tight around my thighs. I would probably size up to a 10 to buy it. And I plan on buying this soon.
Next up was the Composition Book Dress ($128). Since it got the outfit treatment last week I won’t go on too much about it, except to say that the Anthro site has it mislabeled as Odille. It’s actually Moulinette Soeurs. The store was already sold out of both 6s and 8s so I tried a 10 and it was just not workable. Also as I thought when making outfits for it the sash that comes with the dress is less than satisfactory. You really need a belt with this dress to give it shape. I also revisited the Bombast & Cymbal Skirt ($88) to decide if I wanted to order it 1 or 2 sizes up to sit low on my hips. The verdict? One size up. Read my original review here.
I tried to find the Brickwork Hoodie ($168, above) for a little while but that wasn’t happening. Pout. I did try on a cute Odille frock that hasn’t made the website yet. It was plaid which I am growing to love again (can’t help it. I became a teen during grunge). It had a neckline and shape similar to the Dusky Needlework Dress ($98) except 2 or 3 inches shorter. And thus begins my haiku plea to Odille:
My dearest Odille,
Though I am in love with you,
Your clothes are too short.
I know the petites of the world have it tough the other way. My sister is petite and she and I often discuss this passionately. But please Odille, start making talls or something! Your torsos are too short on me. Your skirts make me look like I just went through a growth spurt. And this dress wanted to come home with me but could not because it was entirely too short.
I don’t talk about belts too much but I saw a couple of cute ones in-store that I wanted to mention. First was the Wasp-Waisted Belt ($40, above). Really comfy and I know this will be in style for several seasons to come. It also comes in a lovely peach. The Habanero Belt ($158) was very pretty but way more than I could justify for a frivolous belt spend.
I hope you had better luck at the sale than I did. Any great pickups?
My local store wasn't so crowded. I was able to try things on pretty quickly (no line at all). However, I found the sale was so disappointed, nothing new. OT: I try to locate a Plaza Cardigan (that you're talking about a while back), but couldn't find one in Grey in size Small. Are there any still available?
My store had bunk in the sales room. Blondmama once posted they send my stores sale stuff to another store. I did find a cute orange dress (not on the website). It is a jersey like material, sleeveless, with a deep neckline. It may go back, I don't know if I have a bra that will work. But the dress is empire, that is up my alley.I did find some stuff that wasn't on sale. I was at a party on friday and a couple of the pregnant women (there are a few on my street – must be the water) had on cute strapless dresses. So I went looking for one for my Saturday night party. Not a lot, but there was a cute dress with a blue and orange print, with a sash to the back (it isn't on the website either). It hits below my knee. Very cute, but I am not sure if it will fit me in a month or so. So I also bought the Puckered Scoopneck in med. pink with the Above a Blue Sky Skirt. This is what I ended up wearing. O might take the dresses back and get the Fields of Blue skirt – also has an elastic waist. Roxy is right, Anthropologie has lot of great new stuff. I also like the All Trades Dress in red. But, for some reason I couldn't spend $98 on it. I would have had to buy a tank and probably a belt to wear with it. It really seemed more like a $68 dress. So I might watch for it top go on sale. So, back I'll go and see what I find.I would add links, but I don't know how. Sorry. I will learn.
Hi Georgine! I went to the Oakbrook store and besides the new items that went on sale on the website there was not much else. I picked up two items that must have been returns. One was a black Velvet brand short sleeve hoody. It has white piping. I have never seen it and it was a fun steal at 9.99. Also, I purchased a white cardigan, Field Flower, with yellow flower stitching down the front for 29.99. I almost bought it when it was 69 so I was pleased it showed up on a second markdown. I am hoping for some more sale items on the website tomorrow.
Fair warning: every Saturday is like that at the 5th and 16th store. I actually worked this past Saturday in the afternoon, and while I wasn't in the fitting room at all, (I was on the register for most of my shift,) the few times I ventured downstairs I definitely noted how crazy the fitting room lines were. We are aware of it, and we do try to make waiting in line as comfortable as possible, but we can't really rush the people who are trying clothes on, unfortunately.
It wasn't too bad of a wait and they did send staff out to ask ladies with large piles of clothes if the staff could hold their items in the fitting room. In the past I've been offered water, etc. while waiting. So no complaints here. =) I agree rushing peeps through trying on would be a bad idea.
Yes, often during busy times we'll have an associate whose sole job for that hour is to work the fitting room line, specifically so your experience is a little more pleasant. I have, however, had customers tell me that I should tell the people in there to "hurry up a little, because I'm in a rush," or ask me why we don't have additional fitting rooms open (because we don't have anymore.) I'm glad to hear your experience on Saturday wasn't too bad though. Trust me, that's about the worst that it gets 🙂
FiFi's Pooh, I'm sorry I didn't see your question until now. I have not seen the Plaza Cardigan in-store in awhile. Have you tried calling the catalogue service? They'll do a we'll find it search.

I scored the golden allamanda skirt for 50% off. It was the last one in store and it was in my size (8). That purchase made my day.
Roxy- I did… I called numerous times and the reps replied different each time I called. The confirmed answer is the grey is pretty much sold out (esp. in size XS), only the black left (which I so want the grey).. They also said they are unlikely to restock the grey, but they will order more of the black and it will be shipped to the store, so basically most of the stores get the black.It's kind of one shot. I'm so surprise that this cardigan doesn't even showed on the catalogue yet, but it's sold out already. BTW, thanks so much for your reply.^_____^
