Email: Big Friggin Sale in stores

Just when I was thinking that Anthropologie’s sale section was looking a bit thin I get this email. Starting tomorrow Anthro is having their “biggest sale of the year.” That’s the good news. The bad news is that the email makes the distinction — biggest sale in stores. Edit, update: The sale is online as well though the pickings are slimmer than in-store. With free shipping in the mix? Bonus.

I will swing by the store tomorrow for sure but I just dropped some serious coin at Anthro over the last two weeks so there’d have to be some pretty good deals…oh who am I kidding. I will be eagerly looking for deals. In particular it would make my wee little heart jump to see the Sweet Olive Shift ($168) or the Krasna Dress ($188) on sale. I’ve also been not-so-patiently hoping the Lucky Numbers Choker ($198) would go on sale.

As a frequent Anthropologie shopper I wonder if they’re really bolstering the sale section or if this is just a ploy to get foot traffic in the door. I hope it will be similar to the holidays when there were extra racks up front at the Soho store. I’ll report back either way tomorrow, and share any special interest items in the comments. What items are you hoping to see marked down?

you know, it's so funny–i didn't get the email about the sale or the free shipping, though i do get anthro's regular emails (that have no useful info in them, ha!) i wanted to ask-and maybe you've done a post on this before- do you all handwash your anthro tops and stuff? i've found that even if i put them in a delicates bag on gentle cycle, they get ruined pretty easily. even the cotton ones. maybe just because they're so thin?

Hrmmm actually the last time I got a sale email everything was reflected online as well and when I asked the sales girls they said they make sure the prices match. So it might still be worth checking things online first before heading out!

I will have to stop in the store! A lot of times I have better luck online, especially with free shipping!

You're right Yang — looks like new stuff was added to online sale! I'm glad everyone gets to join in on the fun.Anon @ 9:40 — I do not take any extra precautions with my Anthro stuff. I'm bad, I know. It's because I have to pay to do laundry in my building. If it says Dry Clean only I do dry clean it. Otherwise, I toss care to the wind.

A white shower curtain, some pillows, maybe a bed cover, oh rugs??? I don't know, but I've been thinking about this all night. I'm a nervous wreck! I got the email yesterday and this is how I bought a bunch of things to decorate my home before! Oh yeah, clothes… that too.

Oh I forgot to add… Have fun today!

just so you know–the last time i checked, if you bought stuff at anthro recently (2 weeks) AND the same stuff goes on sale, you may be able to get a price adjustment.

do you think the $358 tibi mykonos dress will be on sale? i've had my eye on it for a while….

Hi ladies, here is the initial report. There are indeed new items being added to the sale racks. I went to Soho during lunch and they had about 5 additional sale racks, with prices ranging from $29.99 up.Some of the newest sale items were only about 20% off, but the rest of the items were 30%-40% off. The newest sale items were "new" in the February catalogue. Almost everything from March on is still full price. For me, the biggest highlight was seeing items long sold-out on the website still in-store. I saw one lucky shopper grab the Honeyhouse Dress. I will have a more detailed report tonight…I'm going to swing by 16th/5th after work.

Anon @ 11:26, I did not see the tibi mykonos dress in Soho but I will keep an eye out for it tonight! Also smart note Anon @ 10:53, you're right on. Anthro does price adjustments for purchases within 14 days.

I got to the San Francisco Anthropologie at 9 because they opened an hour early for the sale though I don't think a lot of people knew about that. I only knew because a friend works at one of the NYC stores.I spent $522 and I did the math, and after tax, if I had bought everything at full price it would have been $1639.00.Not too shabby!I got a coupon in the mail for 15% off my entire purchase good for any day in May because my birthday is May 24th, so that saved me even more money.

I bought the Karst cardigan online this morning around 7:30 in a size medium. I was bummed to get the email tonight that the order was canceled. I hate when that happens! I was able to get to the Oakbrook store today. I actually left without anything. The cardigan was there but only in a size small and it is very fitted. Little did I know my order was going to get canceled.

Rock on Anon @ 7:36! And thanks to all for sharing what you've seen (or plan to see).Work kept me from making 16th/5th tonight — not that I am complaining since my paycheck funds this dirty habit. My friend who works in Flatiron reports that they had about two extra rows of sales racks set up downstairs and that it was really crowded during lunch today. She reports seeing the following items: Conch Shell Pencil Skirts, Krasna Dress, White Pasque Tank, Winding Lane Top, Wildflower Walk Tunic, Grand Holiday Dress, Cummerbund Halter Dress, Lattice Fence Crops, and 1 lonely Isabella Skirt. Thanks Char!!Since Anthropologie has this lame habit of calling items different names on their website I'd written down some style numbers to relay what I saw in-store. That plan didn't work out — the website search doesn't seem to have style number data. Apologies. Here's what I remember seeing at Soho: There You Were Dress, Stone & Cloud skirt, Licury Tank, Sugared Mango Cardigan, Grand Holiday Dress, Glass-of-Bubbily Dress, Krasna Dress (not my size — boo), Sunday Drive Petal Pushers. There was much more but not stuff I remember the name of.Items were moving off the racks but it wasn't intensely crowded. I hope Anthropologie did well today, and I hope you did well if you hit the sale. =)

Deets from the Santa Monica store tonight! Things looked pretty good, most of the tops had been twice marked down (I got two for $20 ea, one of which was the purple Penna Tunic which I have been eyeing forever). They had a pretty good skirt/dress selection, however there are still some available on the website that I didn't see in store. Small tip–I was actually able to get through to some sale items online last night in the regular clothing section–I think they mark them down before they physically move them so this is a great way to catch some deals. There were also a lot of cute knick-knacks, frames, soaps, kitchenware etc for super cheap.

This is a little OT, but has anybody seen the new stuff they've added to the website like the "batwing" tops? What do you guys think?

I went to La Jolla store in San Diego and they had 3 extra sale racks…bought the Holiday dress for cheap but i wish the Golden Chain dress is on sale too…How fast does Anthropologie put their clothes on sale??? any ideas?

  20. May 20, 2009 / 10:47 am

Anon- When you saw the markdowns in the regular section online were the prices red or did you have to click on them to see the sale price? Thanks!

  21. May 20, 2009 / 12:43 pm

Alison — I think the new tops are pretty to my own surprise. This isn't normally a style I'd like. I do think the large armholes combined with flutter style sleeves on some of them could be a fit issue.Anon @ 5:54 — some items seem to go on sale after 60 days, but in my experience most Anthro items that don't sell out go on sale at the 80-90 day point. Has anyone noticed a different pattern to when items go on sale?

  22. May 20, 2009 / 12:48 pm

Oh also I have requests for 2 items if anyone sees them in-store: the Honeyhouse Dress in an 6 or an 8 and the Look Back Tank in a medium. Cheers!

  23. May 20, 2009 / 2:16 pm

sadly (well, happily for my wallet) nothing on my wishlist went on sale so i'm not partaking.i did order a bunch of stuff last week and returned every piece of it due to not fitting, not fitting well enough to justify the price, one shirt having holes… the esmee dress (in navy, though it looks royal online) i ordered should come today. hopefully it fits and doesn't have any holes!i'm going to nyc on saturday, so if we happen by an anthro i'll have to stop in and check it out! 🙂

You are going to have so much fun in NYC! The weather isn't supposed to be so great this weekend, but who cares?

UGH– I know I'm late to the party, but I was wondering if any ~lucky~ Anthro shopper did get their hands on the "Lucky Numbers Choker"?? my friend is getting married in Vegas, and this would be the perfect gift! since it's no longer available in stores, I was hoping someone could tell me who makes it? any help would be MUCH appreciated! thanks!!

Fig Mints I am in a similar situation — I was waiting for the necklace to go on sale and then it pretty much immediately disappeared! Have you tried calling customer service to do a store search for you? Good luck!

  30. August 24, 2009 / 1:23 am

Thanks for your reply Roxy! Yeah, the store search turned up nothing, BUT the helpful Anthro customer service rep told me that the necklace is made by Maximal Art. I emailed them directly to see if they have any more available… I'll let you know what I hear back! 🙂
