Reviews: Faubourg Mary Janes

Because I work in a neighborhood with cobblestone streets I have been looking for pumps with thicker heels. With the 1940s theme going around the world of fashion lately this has been pretty easy. I love the grey-slate color of the Faubourg Mary Janes ($128) which are by Pink Studio. I also felt like the fringed t-strap was a nice touch.

The heel is very solid (not hollow) and easy to walk on. The arch of the shoe is fairly comfortable. I don’t think most women could wear these all day while breaking these in. You’d need driving/walking shoes to pair with these as your work shoes. They’re OK to stand in for short periods of time. I used a shoe insert and the comfort level went way up for me. Once the shoe is broken in however it becomes much more comfortable. My biggest issue was that my true size (9) slipped on my foot during the first wearing. Again, the insole helped with this dramatically. You may want to size down a 1/2 size if you order these.

Below is the outfit I rocked the shoes with. Note I am totally cheating this blog’s topic because everything except the shoes and Tawny Lawns Bag ($258) (which I don’t actually own) are J. Crew.

The Mary Janes are very versatile and their neutral tone could be paired with almost any color. The shoes look great against a skirt but you could also pair them with slacks. I wouldn’t use these as my weekend shoes or dancing shoes any time soon.

Hey Roxy,Noticed you have a skirt I've been wanting. How do you like it?

The brushed gold lamé skirt? Love love love it! I bought it in my true size (6) but probably could have sized down to a 4. Sometimes I feel like full skirts end up making me look big, but this one is incredibly flattering. The pattern of the skirt is gorgeous, the pleats are fun and not overdone and the fabric feels so smooth. I have gotten so many compliments on this skirt. On sale it is more than worth the buy in my opinion.

Hmmm, I was going to get my normal size of 8 b/c I have hips and such so I wanted it to sit well. Do you think that's fine or should I size down to 6? I'm fairly tall at 5'8" and I'd wear boots with a heel or heels with the skirt, as well.Oh, and what have you worn with it?

Sounds like you and I are pretty close in sizing Marta. I'm also 5'8" and have a curvy figure. Maybe this will help — I wear a 6 in the J.Crew stretch vintage cord skirts and a 6 in the belle skirts but an 8 in the shimmery python pencil skirt. You could also try ordering both a 6 and an 8 and return the size that doesn't flatter as nicely (if you're close enough to a store). My guess is that if you feel like an 8 is your size than go with an 8.I have worn the skirt with camel-colored tall boots and brown tights as well as the Mary Janes reviewed. It would also work with flats — I'm eyeing the Hot Cross Flats . On top, I've paired it with the cashmere turtleneck in the polyvore set as well as my black cashmere heirloom henley. When it gets warmer again I will try it with the ivory Victoria cami. Blue, Brown and Purple would also work on top. I'm thinking of asking FFM for her expert opinion. 🙂

Hate to keep asking! But where does the skirt sit on you? I don't want to order 2 sizes (can't afford to), so I'm trying to get it right the first time. I don't own any of the skirts you mention, but I do have the double serge pencil in a 4 (wanted it to sit high on the waist), and a couple minis in size 8. Of course, when you add tights, things get sucked in. Such a dilemma! Think I'll go with my gut in an 8 and just exchange it if I love it and the size isn't right. Also going to get the Alessia peep toes in royal (navy), and with the 20% off and free ship I should come in around $150 for both. Pretty good I think.

Haha no problem! The skirt sits about mid-hip on me…I usually wear them low waist so that is why I felt like I could size down to a 4. I completely understand not wanting to order 2 sizes so I think you should go with the 8. Nice call on the Alessias. They are gorgeous.

I have some Jeffrey Campbell heels that look just like the ones you have pictured. They are super comfortable and I get compliments every time I wear them.
