The pretty new arrivals at Anthropologie, and the WTF

Anthropologie’s new arrivals section is overflowing with tons and tons (and tons) of new stuff! While it’s fun to dig for buried treasure that can get a little overwhelming, so I’ve dug up some of the prettiest and highest-rated goodies to discuss in this post…as well as some of the alarmingly strange stuff to ponder.

Delights await inside, like the perfectly-rated Kalila Floral Dress ($168, above)…

I’m trying to find some cohesive way to describe Anthro’s new stuff but struggling to find one overarching thought. My favorites from the new arrivals don’t necessarily go together or complement each other, but rather are pretty pieces on their own that I’d have to work to fit into my closet and outfit rotation. Time was that Anthropologie used to have three ‘girls’ the teams designed for, and you could usually classify them as the femme chic girl, the boho sophisticate and the vintage-loving girl looking for modern twists. Now there’s also a west coast chic girl, an urban girl, a preppy chic girl and a eclectic girl and they all probably desperately needs to clean out her overstuffed closets!

Items like the Daisies & Gingham Dress ($388, above) for example very much appeal to my preppy chic side (the shirt version, not so much alas) but I don’t see much else that really goes with this among Anthro’s new arrivals. Nothing else to round out my preppy chic capsule. There are a few other items that fit into this mishmash of a category, like the very cute Regatta Wrap Dress ($128), the Eyelet Mock Neck Shell ($78), the Ramona Ruffled Top ($88) and my beloved Geneva Anorak ($148, outfit ideas here and here) which is much much muchmuch cuter in person, but hardly the seamless thread tying all things together that Anthro used to have. Nonetheless, all of these items are very pretty and are on my wishlist.

I see signs of promise in some of the new arrivals too. I love that the Blooming Flora Midi Skirt ($88) and Blooming Flora Cami ($58) above can be worn together as a dress, as seen above, or separately with other pieces. There are some other promising separates like the Coastal Linen Pants ($78) which look sooooo vacation-comfy, the ethereal Wild Shore Top ($198) and the simply chic Rian Ruffled Blouse ($78). I wish there more pieces like these that are simple and wearable in many combinations (and less of the more out there, not easy to pair stuff).

And of course there are pretty dresses — thank goodness for pretty dresses! Still far too few fit-and-flares for my taste, but I am intrigued by choices like the Maxima Lace Dress ($178, above), the annoyingly online-only Poppy Midi Dress ($228), the duo-patterned to perfection Sunlit Floral Maxi Dress ($228), the cheery dotted Atiya Embroidered Tunic Dress ($188), the cutely combination-printed Annora Dress ($148), the simple and lovely Lorenna Lace Dress ($198), the perfectly hued Emilia Embroidered Dress ($258). If only more of them weren’t online only!! Anthro seems to be missing an opportunity to get its best stuff into stores — though sometimes, these ‘online exclusives’ do end up showing in my NYC stores.

One area where I’m very pleased with Anthropologie right now are accessories, especially jewelry! I feel like they are doing a great job of mixing styles and colors with many highly wearable pieces. Right now there are also a lot of new shoes, watches and bags I’d like to own!

Pieces like the Striped Packable Visor ($28, above) are smart for its packability (new word!) and pretty to boot. I’m also lusting after cute pieces like the Brown Beaded Wrap Watch ($158) and Green Striped Watch ($168), both of which seem like they could go with anything! I also have an almost-embarrassingly long list of bags I’d like, as the geometric patterns of choices like the Petit Georgia Tote ($460), Tramway Crossbody Bag ($88) and Jamaica Tote ($190) have me swooning.

There are also lots of cute new shoes! I’m delighted to see Anthro is carrying some Superga (a favorite brand of Princess Kate, whom my best friend and I share a style kinship with along with many millions of women, I’m sure!) like the Velvet Sneaker Mules ($98) and Eyelet Sneakers ($68), the latter of which has fun colorful lace holes.

I’ve gathered up more of my Anthro current new arrival favorites in a boutique at the bottom of this post. But first, before we get there, let’s discuss the WTF among Anthropologie’s latest arrivals.

The Getty Tasseled Top ($148) and Maddalyn Wide-Legs ($118) above represent two things I can’t deal with about Anthropologie right now. Someone thought this looked good???
More that I don’t get:
3 | Continuing the weird juvenile theme, this romper is easy to get on and off for emergency potty training…for those of us in our 20s and 30s…?
4 | And here’s a top that would probably cover the complete torso of a 5-year-old, but not an adult.
5 | Anthropologie is now kindly offering a smock perfect for making all those paint-splattered garments we so adore and desire!
6 | This skirt should have been classified as a napkin. Anthro regrets the error.
7 | This dress is unbelievably low cut, or the model came off a long night out on her way to the studio.
8 | To keep this dress under $400, the designers couldn’t finish the hem.
9 | Pants only an elephant’s mother could love. They’d fit over a baby elephant’s ears after all.
10 | This dress doubles as a tablecloth on your picnics!
11 | They tried to make fancy track pants a thing in the 90s too. It didn’t work then either.

While I gently weep over some of the weird things Anthro is offering, here’s that boutique I promised filled with more of the lovely new Anthropologie arrivals I’ve found in my website hunting. What are you loving or hating right now?

!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? ‘http’ : ‘https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + ‘://’ + ‘widgets.rewardstyle.com’ + ‘/js/boutique.js’;d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__boutique === ‘object’) if(d.readyState === ‘complete’) {window.__boutique.init();}}(document, ‘script’, ’boutique-script’);

I love your jacket and I'm loving Madewell right now. I have my eye on the apron dress and the apron cross hatch tank. I also love that Nordstrom carries Madewell – so easy.

I love the whole look, especially the color of the top against the color of the jacket. I never would've made the combo myself. And I just ordered those earrings, so excited to see them on a real person!

What size jeans do you buy? Do you need to size. Up since they are white?

These are 32s, which is my normal size at Madewell. They don't have much stretch to them at all but they're not very see-through so I'd think your true size is good.
