Reviews: Weekend Splurge

I know many people are on shopping bans (some for Lent) so it’s a bit sheepishly that I say I splurged a bit this weekend. I ended up further ahead then normal in February and I get free rent this month at my apartment. I put 3/4 of the money away but couldn’t help myself with that last little bit.

Oh Leifsdottir. A week ago I barely even heard of you and already you’ve sucked me into your clutches. Your scalloped-print skirt is gorgeous!! I was so excited I even took a picture, which I hardly ever do! In fact I was so excited that I completely ignored that I am swimming in the size 6 Aalto Top! The Aalto Top — like most Edme & Esyllte tops — runs large. I will most likely exchange the top for a 4. Ignore the tint of my cellphone camera — the product shot above shows the shirt’s true lovely purple. I felt like the cap sleeve was a little less substantial on than the product image. Then again, I have pretty broad shoulders.

But back to the Conch Shell Pencil Skirt. The detailing is exquisite and I like the scallop pattern better than the jacquards and brocades that are trendy right now. The mix of pink, purple and cream are a treat. Overall the skirt feels pretty luxurious and the seams, sewing and details are high-quality.

Here’s the lining of the skirt. Note the little pearls — nice touch! I didn’t feel the pearls and because the bottom of the skirt is away from your body you don’t feel them. In the photo below note the pearl on the zipper. It’s about the size of a marble and I thought it was an odd touch. With a fitted top the pearl would be very noticeable.

I had a bit of trouble figuring out what size to buy. I grabbed a 6 and an 8 for the dressing room. I tried on the 8 first and it was super tight…I could barely zip it up! So I asked the fitting room attendant for a 10 and it was too big. There was tons of extra room around my waist and the bottom sat at an unflattering angle. Just for kicks I tried the 6 on and it seemed larger than the 8! I’m not really stuck on my size as a number but I had to giggle a bit. I bought both the top and the skirt and I could not be happier. No buyer’s remorse for this outfit. I came up with an example look over on Polyvore. I’m excited to have both the Cole Haans and the J.Crew Dusty Rose pumps as shoe options! I look forward to wearing this outfit out on a warm weather date soon.

Oh holy shmoly, the skirt is to die for! You lucky, lucky thing. It'll look amazing with the J Crew pumps. I have the perfectly patent pumps in "dusty pink" (or are they "dusty rose"?) and I wear them with everything.

I purchased the Aalto Top in white last month and had to size down as well. Very cute outfit!

Hi Anon@11:08, the wrinkle in time dress runs small. I had to order one size up (large) to be comfortable. The skirt of the dress is bubble-style, so the middle floats away and then the skirt tapers back in elastically. Love it!

Hi! I jut discovered your blog and that there are other anthro addicts out there. I just bought that skirt myself two weeks ago on a day trip to New York. Of course I promised myself I wouldn't spend a lot of money, but it was jut too gorgeous to resist!

Totally been a winner for me. I've worn it twice and felt great both times. I know the skirt will end up on sale but I am happy with my decision to invest at full price. It's one of those pieces that makes me feel good about myself when I wear it.
