Anthropologie’s Summer Tag Sale Pregame has begun!

Anthropologie has done some major sale cuts this morning as it prepares to kick off it’s semi-annual Tag Sale! Right now there is no extra % off sale but I’m told we can expect up to an extra 30% off sale as soon as tomorrow.

I think at this point I’ve made my qualms with Anthro clear so I won’t go into them again here and take away from the sale hunting fun! In truth, I haven’t even walked into an Anthro store for over a month now…which is like shopping heresy for me. This might be just the enticement I need to go and see where they stand now.

A few recent updates at Anthro:
— All Anthro members now get free shipping on orders of $150+ all the time. If you’re not an Anthro member (it’s free!), sign up here.
— Anthropologie reached out to me to say despite what multiple community members here experienced and this post, they have not updated their returns policy. Which is great news — as long as you have your receipt you should still be able to make a return for an unlimited time! Unfortunately they have not gotten back to me regarding my question of what shoppers should do if they are denied a return as many of us have been, so I’ve been holding back the update post waiting for that info. I’m also curious about whether they are deleting records older than 6 months which would be a handy way of not changing their policy but still getting the effect they might want. There are still lots of open questions on this one.

Anyway, let’s sale! Here are some of the sale items that look interesting to me…

This photo looks a bit like a propaganda poster to me, as though it’s saying “I want YOU to join polka dot nation!” And I might just have to do that with the Pocket V-Neck Tunic Top (now $30) above. According to the online reviews this top runs large and has big arm holes, neither of which bother me much for a day at the beach or on the Coney Island Boardwalk. The top comes in 4 solid colors and 2 patterns. I’d think this top would go great with the Relaxed Chino Shorts (now $30), a long-time Anthro favorite of mine that they have not messed with (thank goodness). The shorts can be rolled up to a shorter length or left unrolled for longer length and are generally super comfy. They come in a range of pretty colors and run true to size. They also have a cute design on the waistband! If you prefer your shorts unrolled there is a shorter inseam version with no cuffing potential.

Another freshly cut top I’m interested in taking a look at is the Sleeveless Linen Swing Top (now $40), which comes in 4 colors including a stunning dark green called ‘dark tourqouise’. I only wish this top wasn’t quite so cropped! I’d pair that top with the Slim Chino Pants (now $50), though I have to note that these have some pretty iffy reviews regarding quality. If those pants aren’t tempting, I also think the Pilcro Stet Mid-Rise Jacquard Skinny Jeans (now $50) and the Petaled Pants (now $50) both look so cool!

If you’re looking for a more classic top, consider the Pintucked Sleeveless Blouse (now $40), which runs large. This top is a great length and comes in a few classic colors and fun prints. Perfect summer work shirt for casual offices! To protect it through the wash, spray it with this along the frayed edges and wash it inside out in cold water on the gentle cycle.

With Summer finally here, there are a bunch of new sale items that look perfect for vacation or days off from work. I’m particularly thinking of the cute Abstract Geo Blouse (now $40, above) when I say this, a top that looks perfect for Saturdays with nothing to do but plenty of fun places to go! The Nadiya Caftan (now $50) also looks intriguing to me as a beach cover up if for no other reason than loving its beautiful lemon color.

I also quite like the Washed Denim Pocket Tank Top (now $50), especially its split back! I won’t be buying this top because I have a very similar one from last year but it’s well worth checking out if you are looking for a lightweight everyday top.

In terms of dresses, Anthro has already conceded it messed up by not having enough this Spring so I won’t belabor the point…it’s a sad day when my wishlist isn’t chock full of Anthro frocks! There are a few in sale, like the Cody Yarn-Dyed Swing Dress (now $130, above), Palisades Embroidered Midi Dress (now $100) and Isa Midi Dress (now $100) that look interesting to me.  I’m also delighted that the 5-star-rated Elisabeth Dress (now $300) made it to sale. There are way too many dresses like the Emmeline One-Shoulder Gingham Tunic Dress (now $100) that look cute but have no shape whatsoever. No way Anthro. I’m not doing that. For all you petites out there, the Petite Leah Dress (now $100) looks super-cute! I might have to try it myself.

Truth be told, I wish Anthropologie would take some of its beautiful apron patterns like the Nadia Apron (now $20) and make it into a dress! That’s where all the fun prints and beautiful fit-and-flatter shapes seem to be hiding. ?

You will find some cute skirt options new to sale today like the Dionna Ruffle Skirt (now $100) and the Zebra-Printed Skirt (now $150). Both are pretty, fun and should be emulated into other categories! I can’t wait to try them on.

There were also fresh cuts in home today, where delights like the Moussem Ceramic Stool (now $100) await. Furniture is typically excluded from any extra percent off sale promotions so for the best selection you might want to look now!  I’m a little sad to see there wasn’t more jewelry cut today; we’ll see what the next few weeks bring.

Below, my picks for the Tag Sale. What are yours?

I am going to wait to bite until the percentage off happens, I don't want to go into a store until then, because PAs are such a pain in store.

Yes, Roxy, yes! Every time I see an Anthropologie apron these days I think "That is what Anthro dresses used to be like! That apron should be a dress!" In fact, not to sound weird, but if Anthropologie took that tiny bit of advice as far as brand direction goes- I seriously think sales would increase significantly and they'd start regaining customers.

Indeed! I have thought the very same about those aprons for years!

Most of my wishlist is jewelry, and none of that went on sale so I'm safe.

Thank you for this post, Roxy, and thank you for sharing the returns info.

These trapeze and boxy shapes are too unflattering for me (and for my sis) so I may pass, unless I go for some shoes. I recently bought a blue maxi dress from Anthro by Lacausa (fp, even though it could have come from Target, but made in USA and very soft and airy). I've also been finding really old silk crepe Leifsdottir pieces that are work perfect in this hot and humid weather. Sizing is all over the place, though.

I just came across an interview you gave in 2013, wherein you reiterate so many points you've made since the early days of your blog, and everything you've ever said was so true. I never understood why Anthropologie didn't hire you.

Here it is, and could have been written today: http://www.featherfactor.com/2013/01/interview-wi

Thank you for all the work you've put into this blog.

Yippee! Thanks for letting me know Anthropolitan 🙂

Finally snagged the items that have been sitting in my cart for months!

I ordered the Degas Ballet Flat and Vegan Agency Lace-Up Boot.

Still waiting on the Kuna Maxi Dress ? but something tells me it won't make it to sale.

Were you able to take advantage of the sale?

I will wait till the extra % off to take a look. Nothing I'm too interested in lately at Anthro.

Does anyone know when the extra percent off kicks in? Is it a week later, or two? I can't remember.

Do you think they will cut more items? I was really hoping for a pair of summer pants to be cut…but no luck.

    • Kelly
      June 22, 2017 / 2:11 pm

In the past they have waited until AFTER the tag sale to mark down the most desirable summer items. I was hoping the white Pilcro embroidered jeans would be included in the sale, but not really surprised they're not. I probably won't buy anything unless I happen to find my size in the hyphen chino shorts in-store. I'm not about to pay shipping, and there isn't $150 worth of stuff I want or need from Anthro.

I scanned all the fresh cuts this morning and sadly nothing for me.

I liked a furniture piece but the shipping was more than the item which is silly because UO ships plenty of furniture items for free. Anyhow I did nab a cute Anthro skirt not too long ago but I haven't seen the inside of their store in MONTHS.

      June 22, 2017 / 2:44 pm

Lindinha, you're not missing anything at the store, I was just in there and walked out with nothing. It used to be I couldn't leave that place without buying something practically every time I visited lol but not anymore. I don't know who their buyer(s) is/are but I think they need to hire new people, photographers, the works to get back to how awesome they used to be.

        June 22, 2017 / 3:48 pm

That is just tragic Jess! If there is nothing for you then I'd certainly be wasting my time.

While I was perusing the fresh cuts this morning (only after I saw the email) I was reminded of a time when I would've laughed at that same email knowing that I had shopped the night before and snagged all the good stuff.

I also left the store empty handed. I did order a pair of shoes I'd been eyeing online, but that was all

It's sad because I was in the mood for shopping and the sales assistants were all so sweet and eager to help me out but there was just nothing that caught my eye. A lot of the shoes do look good right now that's true. I'm really hoping Fall time we'll all be seeing some awesome must have items again:)

Almost forgot to add that even though I didn't get lucky at the store, I did however order on-line a couple of dresses from Maeve that I highly recommend to you ladies…the Summer Breeze dress (so adorable, comfortable and pretty!). I bought it in a Medium (34 DD) in the yellow print though I love both prints. I could also wear a Small in this dress but found the bust just a tad tight so opted for the Medium instead. Also, the new Carlotta Ruched Shirtdress in the red motif in size Small (it's TTS) and it's really super cute. I'm thinking of also getting it in black. It's a pullover style, has pockets and it's also very comfortable.

            June 23, 2017 / 11:26 am

The Summer Breeze dress is absolutely adorable! I won't buy until it hits sale (I'm almost 8 months pregnant so can't wear it anyways lol) but it's #1 on my to-buy list. Thanks for the tip to size up!

Great choice! What a pretty, versatile dress that's easy on the budget. I'd say Maeve is the best thing going for Anthro right now. I ordered the Colorblocked Poplin Skirt 2 weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it.

You're welcome ladies! I agree about Maeve being one of the more reliable style brands that Anthro has to offer. Also forgot to add that both of those dresses are quite slimming which is always a plus.

I bought the Libra Embroidered Tunic Dress two days ago at full price. I love the dress so much so I have to snatch it after I tried it on in the store. I saw it was in the tag sale, so I will definitely wait until there is further % off to get it priced adjusted.

I snagged the Handcarved Lotus Bed, in Black Queen size, in the early hours this morning. It appeared to be the only one available. I'm thrilled with my first piece of Anthro furniture. I had no idea my bed would be delivered and assembled for me! So excited!

So they doubled the sale inventory.
I'm refusing to buy until we get an extra percentage off.
At this point they're going to have to go at least 40 cause none of it's moving.
I haven't purchased anything other than home in almost a year. It's tragic!

It's been months since I've shopped for clothing at Anthro… I have only bought soap and a bath mat to replace one I lost. I made a full price purchase online and was just denied a price adjustment! Do they not give p.a.'s anymore?
I just reordered the item plus another item to get the free shipping. I will speak with my local store manager tomorrow to see if anything has changed.

    • lulu
      June 29, 2017 / 11:50 pm

I have no idea what is up with Anthro at the moment. An item I had bought before the tag sale had been marked down but quickly sold out. When I went in to get the price adjustment (within the two week window), they told me that the item was still full price. I then went in with a printed copy of my Anthro shopping basket and they still claimed that it was full price according to their system. It took quite a bit of to-ing and fro-ing for them to finally honor the sale price. Perhaps clothing returns to full price in the system once it sells out but that really makes no sense. I am scratching my head.

      • Lynn
        June 30, 2017 / 12:31 am

Customer service also told me my item was still full price even though it was marked down to 149.95 from 248.00 plus the 30% off…which makes it 104.97. I'm curious what my store manager will say.

I just reordered the dress and will be returning the one purchased at full price a week ago.

I will also be returning other items I very recently purchased from the complete Georgina duvet set to the $$$$ Claudia Silk Maxi Dress.
I'm trying to rebuild my home and replace items that I lost, like items that were originally purchased at Anthro 2-4 years ago…shower curtains, bath mats, etc. I really don't need to fight with them as there are other retailers out there who are happy to have me as a customer. Btw, I love ebay!

    • Lori
      June 30, 2017 / 7:30 am

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I called for a PA on a few sale items to get the extra 30% off and had no problem. The adjustment came through right away. Its too bad you had to buy and return, but at least you'll get your $.

I'm not sure what's going on with Anthro. I just received a package with the label attached with a single piece of Scotch tape at the top and a piece of Anthro tissue tape on the bottom corner. The poor label was hanging on for dear life and I'm shocked that I even got the package. I reported it to customer service because it's unacceptable. My item was not wrapped because they are using all of their tissue tape to secure labels! <img draggable="false" class="emoji" alt="?" src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/svg/1f602.svg"><img draggable="false" class="emoji" alt="?" src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/svg/1f602.svg"><img draggable="false" class="emoji" alt="?" src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.3/svg/1f602.svg"&gt;. I like store fulfillment because it increases my chances of getting the items I want but I hate getting 10 packages for one or two orders. My husband is going to think I have a shopping addiction real soon!
