How I Save Money on Shoes by Shopping at Amazon

How savvy is your shoe shopping?
With Amazon, you can keep extra cash in your pockets on popular shoe styles like the Huxley

If you want to learn how to buy the shoes you love and save money, you’ve come to the right place. I love shoes and each season I like to give my wardrobe a refresh by purchasing new pairs of shoes. It’s an easy way to breathe new life into an outfit or update to fit the changing trends and styles.

I’m not a big believer in things like shopping bans because from what I’ve seen, they often lead to overspending afterwards. Depriving yourself is not healthy. However, there are ways that you can be savvy with your money and get what you need or want and still have extra cash in your pockets! Who doesn’t love having extra cash on-hand?

To make this year the best shopping year of your life, I want to help you find ways to get the things you love for less. In this post we’ll be talking about why you should always be checking Amazon before you buy a pair of shoes. You could be leaving a lot of money on the table if you’re not!

Amazon knows how I like my shoe shopping — effortless! I especially love the black mules shown.

We all know and love Amazon. With Prime membership you get free and fast shipping. You can buy anything from books to clothing to groceries on Amazon and everything in-between too. I love how easy ordering from Amazon is, and if I have any problems with my order their customer service is swift and responsive. Returns are easy too!!

This is why more and more, I’m checking Amazon first before I buy any pair of shoes. Here are some more ways Amazon can save you money on shoe shopping.

1. They offer FREE shipping.
If you are a Prime member, you can get your shoes shipped to you via their 2-day method for FREE. You don’t need to spend a minimum amount to get free shipping either. It’s free all the time with Prime. One-day shipping incurs just a small charge. That alone will save you money — many stores charge $20 or more for 2-day shipping, and overnight can often be $30!

So already by ordering via Amazon you’ll save money. Not in a rush for your items? You can have them shipped via the Saver method for free even if you’re not a Prime member. If you want to try Prime, you can get a 30-day free Amazon Prime trial via my referral link.

2. Their prices are often lower.
Because Amazon is so huge it can stock larger quantities of an item. It can also stock it longer — unlike traditional stores that have a finite amount of space, warehouse space and in-store shelf space isn’t much of a concern. So while this means that a few items remain full price on Amazon longer, it also means that they can use their data on clicks and sales wisely to drop prices on items they want to sell faster. It’s a win-win for the customer — often, items that are full-price elsewhere are cheaper on Amazon, and if you just wait awhile with an item in your cart it’s almost certain to drop in price! (Even if it shoots upwards at first.)

As an example, I was shocked to find the Leya Fashion Sneaker in colors I didn’t even know existed, sometimes $10 or more cheaper than other stores carrying it. Factor in the Free Shipping with my Prime membership for 2-day shipping and all of a sudden these shoes are $20-$25 cheaper than elsewhere.

3. They have older items in stock.
I tend to think about my bigger purchases for awhile before taking the plunge. Sometimes this means items I want sell out from under me and I’m left thinking about them for a long time, wishing I hadn’t missed out.

With Amazon, I’ve noticed I no longer have to worry for most shoes I love. Even if I miss the shoes elsewhere, I’ll probably be able to find them here. And often, I can grab shoes I’ve wanted badly for a great deal. I saved over $150 off the full price of the Leopard Pari Pump I was looking for — the only other place I could even find this shoe was for above full price on sites like eBay!

So not only did I get the pumps I wanted, I had an extra $150 in my pocket after buying them. I felt especially savvy after that purchase.

4. They carry so many brands.
Often I’ll find one pair of shoes I love at one store, and another pair somewhere else. It’s common to see a pair of shoes on a store’s website but then not find that shoe in the actual store — so frustrating! The return policy differs from store to store, I end up with tons of boxes in our living room and my boyfriend wonders why I’m getting boxes every day.

Amazon takes most of the hassle out of shoe shopping. Since they carry so many brands, I can simply order 5 or 6 pairs at a time, try them all on in the comfort of my own home, and then send back whichever pairs I decide I don’t want to keep. Returns are simple and I don’t even need a home printer to do them! I often get my refund back as soon as Amazon confirms I’ve dropped my return off at USPS or UPS. That’s pretty amazing.

It’s never a problem to order multiple shoes or sizes from Amazon.

5. They have accurate reviews by verified customers.
Sometimes on store sites I wonder who these mysterious reviewers are. On Anthropologie’s site we like to laugh about some of the fake reviews but a fake review could really mess me up if it leads me to buy the wrong size or an uncomfortable shoe!

It’s such a relief to know that Amazon only allows verified buyers to leave product reviews. And since Amazon is so huge it’s uncommon to come across an item that has no reviews at all. Even just 1 or 2 reviews from people who actually own the shoes are very helpful in my decision-making. I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing these are reviews from shoe lovers like me.

6. Other stores will price-match Amazon.
Unfortunately, Amazon ended its price matching policy last year. But even though they no longer price match themselves, their low prices still help us as consumers. How? Other stores will price-match Amazon!

The best example is probably Nordstrom. I love shopping there because of their customer-friendly policies, including price matching. When I see a pair of shoes at Nordstrom I love I’ll check Amazon before making my purchase to see their price. If Amazon has a cheaper price I might just buy outright from them but if there’s stuff already in my Nordstrom cart I’ll place my order there and then call to get the shoes price matched. Nordstrom has always matched the lower price for me!

And here’s something you may not know, most stores will price match! Even luxury stores like Saks will often price match for me if I call and ask nicely. For me the key has been placing the order first and then calling. It seems to get me a higher success rate than if I call and try to place the order at the same time.

So Amazon’s lower prices not only help me when I shop there, they also help me when I shop elsewhere!

Here are some more shoes I’m loving at Amazon right now:
1 | The lovely and comfy Lena Dress Pump is sold out at many stores, but still stocked in three colors at Amazon.
2 | These Ladies High Heels Party Wedding Count Pump Shoes might look very familiar to you — and they’re over $700 less than the designer version! They come very highly rated by customers too.
3 | The block-heeled Larsa Sandal is hard to find at this price anywhere else.
4 | Amazon also has this year’s version of the sandal, called the Luci Heeled Sandal, in more colors and even a cute leopard pattern!
5 | The flat Jasmyn Gladiator Sandal has high ratings and is available in 11 colors and patterns.
6 | The Lannah Wedge has a low heel and comes in three neutral color combinations. I own a very similar shoe and wear it constantly in the summer!
7 | Look sleek and put-together in the Hunt Boot. I adore the side zipper tassel.
8 | The Lainey Wedge is another cute low wedge, and this one has on-trend cutouts.
9 | Looking for a sandal heel for nights out? I own a previous version of the Haven Gladiator Sandal and love it!
10 | Depending on the color you want, you’ll find the Hazel Dress Pump far cheaper at Amazon than anywhere else.
11 | The Brice Flat Sandal has the cutest tassels and is easy to pair with any casual look.
12 | How fun are the fringed Paige Boots? Finding the right pair is so simple when there are tons of colors and sizes available!
13 | I love my pair of python Eavan Gladiator Sandals, and was able to get a backup pair in my size via Amazon when everyone else was long sold out of these cuties!
14 | The Estelle Mule has a sturdy block heel and feminine cutout details.
15 | The similar Easton Ankle Bootie has cutouts too in bootie form. Love that buckle!

Help your feet look cute in shoes like the Pacer Wedge Sandal for less with Amazon.

16 | Fringey flat sandals make me happy. The Estelle Flat Sandals have me dreaming of the beach.
17 | The Aisha Dress Sandal is sold out pretty much everywhere except Amazon. And no wonder — it is gorgeous.
18 | Looking for some fun, embellished summer sandals? I found and love these Posh Leather Sandals.
19 | Jewels on toes? You can have it with the cute yet casual Gwenda Toe Ring Sandal.
20 | Minimal with fringe ties, the Saffron-Vacn Flat is a beautiful all-purpose sandal.

23 | The Piper Wedge Sandal is one to watch to see if the price drops. (It will over time!)

25 | The Sable Slides are easy-on, easy-off with just a bit of sparkle.
26 | I love the tiny studs and criss-cross wraps of the Oda Flat Sandals.
27 | Boho and lovely, the Kacia Dress Sandals have a fun and playful vibe.
28 | The Abbott Dress Sandal is another great example of a shoe that’s sold out elsewhere, but easy to find (and for less than full price!) on Amazon.
29 | The Saburo Wrap Sandals are another simple, beautiful ankle tie pair.
30 | Perhaps I saved my favorites for last in the Haile Flat Sandal!

I got boots for $50 on Amazon that Anthro had as $130 (or maybe a little more than that, I can't recall) for the lowest sale price. I don't have Prime, but the shipping was free since the order was over $35 (and I think I received them in around 2 days).

If anyone remembers these amazing boots from Anthro few years back, I scored the brown one from Amazon for 22 dollars. Its up to $55 now but I saw it go down to $19 before it went back up to $15.

The charcoal is still available for $39 which is still a steal compared to 150-200 retail on Anthro and $80-100 on sale.

Great post Roxy. Last year, I saved over $100 on a pair on Frye boots purchased through Amazon. They were brand new and I believe they were shipped directly from Frye.

I have been told twice by Nordstroms (once in store and once in an online chat) that they will not match Amazon's prices and the other conversation they said they will not match if the seller is a 3rd party..thoughts?

I love Amazon! I wish they celebrated customer anniversaries, I'm 20 years this year!

I think it was Anthropolitan who gave us the heads up on the Frye suede OTK grommet boots. Price is heading down again on AMZN.

And thank you for the recs, Roxy! I wishlisted a few and bought the Circus slides for $23! They're so cute ??

I tried the CoH Abigail since I'm looking for some high-waisted wide-legs, but I think I need thinner material. And I do like the white embroidered Pilcros.

and OT: recently Anthro reviews had gone wonky again after being fine for several weeks. I even tried on different devices, but couldn't leave reviews or read them, although the star ratings and number showed at the top. Tried early this morning and the same. Now, suddenly, everything is working agaiin, without me even rebooting.

oh, I totally forgot about the coupon expiring. Oh well.

Can you tell me how much these Pilcros stretch after a few hours? I'm between sizes, so it is hard to know.

Hi Roxy. Did you see the ruffled trench coat online (by Helene.
Bergman London)? Sold out in most sizes which I am totatalky bummed about! Wished they could have stocked more of these classic items

    • May 1, 2017 / 6:17 pm

There are some fresh cuts in the sale section. Not a lot, but a few new things, plus some second cuts. The downside is that if an item is sold out you can't see the current price, which makes PA difficult to determine.

    • May 2, 2017 / 7:33 am

Yup I'm on it, sale post coming in about 15 minutes!

I love buying everything on Amazon! I'm not a fan of shopping in person anymore and love what Prime offers.
