Get a sneak peek at Anthropologie’s Spring 2017 collection!!

Anthropologie invites you to take a peek at warmer days ahead, and clothing to match!

Happy New Year!! Anthropologie is not wasting any time trying to impress us in 2017, sending out a Spring collection preview email this morning to Anthro members. On their last quarterly earnings call the leadership team promised Anthro would be ‘lean’ in apparel going in to Spring.

So, what does that look like? You can see all the preview items here. Hints and thoughts, inside…

The Venice Ruffle Tee ($78).

It appears from items like the Canna Midi Top ($78) and Canna Wide-Legs ($98) topping this post, as well as the Venice Ruffle Tee ($78) just above that proportion play is going to be big with Anthropologie come Spring.

I can’t really even fake enthusiasm for this stuff. Although the colors are lovely and I can certainly make a tee like the Venice Ruffle Tee ($78) or the Pilcro Washed Chino Skirt ($88) work, most of the same issues from the last several seasons remain — torsos that look too short, very boxy or askew cuts, and prints that don’t work in most real-life scenarios. The story is much the same in the accessories preview…it’s too literal even for my Hawaiian or Costa Rican getaways.

As has been the case for the last few years, the stuff that gets picked for catalogue often isn’t the best stuff to come out. Here are a couple of cute items that aren’t officially part of the preview but look good…

The Open-Shoulder Poplin Dress ($138) — simple and wearable, with a twist.
The Lova Ribbed Sweater ($250), shown with the Kalle Suede Mini Skirt ($595).

Suffice it to say, I’m much more excited about the coats I’m seeing right now. How about you?

Happy New Year to everyone ??????

Looks like Colorblock is the main theme of spring collection. I like this lova ribbed sweater and yulia Maxi skirt. Other than these two I'm not sure how the fit is for the tops as they look short and boxy ??AGAIN

Anthropologie must have had a conversation with my husband several months back to get me to stop spending so much money on clothes.

I was in Palo Alto Anthro today and overheard a husband saying to his wife “If you buy any more candles, I'm leaving without you”
      LOL

That is tooooo funny! I am obsessed with their candles and my husband is always saying, “Really? Another candle from Anthro?” Whenever they have a sale, I go overboard and stock up on them!

    Happy 2017!

I tried on the Printmaker dress the other day and the ongoing fit problems continue. It was both massive, with acres of fabric that could barely be contained by the tie belt, yet also tight across the shoulders. The print is more palatable IRL, though.

I actually purchased it and sized down a bunch.. I was drawn to the print and it reminded me of old school Anthro..print…pockets,etc. (no pretty underskirt though:-/) I'll be retrying it on at home to make extra sure it will work.
As far as the preview. Meh. I'm with Guest above. They also spoke with my husband…lol
I think this year as of right now…I'll be shopping my closet. I reaaaaally don't NEED anything at this point. NEED.. the operative word. 🙂 The terrible clothing just pushes me over the edge.

I can't imagine wearing 99% of what's in the preview look book. The items look straight from the runway with no consideration of real life scenarios or body types. I foresee a lot of promos and sales coming to move these items.

I bought an Anthropologie gift card off of a friend last summer, figuring that it would only be a matter of time before I found something to spend it on. 7 months later, it's still sitting around, and if these clothes are anything to go off of, it will continue to sit around. At what point do I give up and buy some cute kitchen things? (Whenever that point is, I'm sure the following day will result in a release of lovely fitted cardigans and fit and flare dresses.)

Same here, I have GC from last (2015) Christmas and still waiting to use them on something. I've already turned to the home department and purchased the gold lace metallic plates. Maybe 2017 will be an Anthro Home year.

Me three! i have multiple GC's from Christmas and a Dec birthday and I have added NOTHING to my wishlist in months. Very little of what was previewed for spring practical for real life. I continue to be stunned at how far Anthro has strayed from their what was their signature look. I just don't get it!?? Much of the clothing is clearly not selling as evidenced by store inventory even after all the discounts. Only a few of the more “classic” Antro style items are selling out. Why do they continue to produce designs their core customer doesn't want to buy?? When is Anthro going to stop blaming the customers for being slow to accept the trends and take some responsibility that their design team is wrong. ANTHRO IT'S NOT US, IT'S YOU!

I did order the Venice Tee just before Christmas and it's going back (I haven't even been inspired to visit my local store since the week before Christmas.). I went with the larger of my two sizes hoping to gain length, but it was too big/boxy through the body. I wasn't wowed enough to bother re-ordering a smaller size(s). A note on the colors, I preferred the green for spring as the blue is actually blue and gray and not ivory/white as the on-line photo suggests.

Agreed – this preview does not suggest that Anthropologie is headed in the right direction. I received one of the $50 coupons with the holiday gift and couldn't find a thing. I didn't want it to go to waste so purchased the (lovely smelling) counter sprays. In the past I would never have given up the chance to use it toward clothes.

Happy New Year Roxy!!!! Other than the suede skirt and sweater above, there is nothing else I would even contemplate buying which is fine as my closet is pretty full. I have a 20% off coupon from an oops and am contemplating trying the Chaumont shirtdress and the Charlene Sleeveless top. Nothing exciting but a few cute staples.

The clothing preview is sad and very disappointing. Seriously who would look at these items and say YES this is how we want our collection to look??? Do they not ever read reviews/comments/surveys? I remember from the last company report…that their customers need to adjust to a European Look? I think its just ugly clothing that is poor fitting and way over priced. Nothing I want or will purchase and as several commenters above said…my clothing budget will AGAIN not be spent at Anthropologie, which a few years ago received almost 100% of my money

  14. kelly
    January 1, 2017 / 5:31 pm

There is no sugarcoating it; this stuff is ugly and is not going to sell.

My sentence in 2016 will continue to be my sentence whenever I walked to Anthropologie “WTF”.
Sad collection, unrealistic… more money in my pocket.

Ugh. Where are the happy spring colors, fit and flare dresses, quirky cardigans, and whimsical prints? I feel like Anthropologie has been hijacked and is turning into “Free People For Boring Older Folks.”

Agree with everyone here. These are fugly looks that I can't imagine wearing AT ALL. Who would wear these and to do what? Argh. I have money to spend, but it won't be here.

Wow, it's a sad state of affairs at Anthropologie. I wonder how they will fair if they continue down this road. I only picked up some candles at 40% off right after Christmas. However, my store was surprisingly full and many people, especially men, were buying the clothes.

I will continue to turn to alternative choices for my clothing offerings – J Crew, Club Monaco (great sale going on right now, an excellent time to pick up sweaters), Gilt, Tory Burch (really cute offerings for spring/summer), Bloomingdales – pretty much any other retailer except them. The one dress that I did purchase around Black Friday was returned because it was $100 cheaper on Gilt.

I'd rather have quality over quantity and I'm willing to pay for it. While I still have to review all of the fabric content at ALL retailers, they.are.the.worst. Acrylic + high prices?

    January 1, 2017 / 2:56 pm

Me, too! I was waiting and waiting to find something in clothes I really liked. I finally ended up using my coupon on a skincare mask only because that stuff usually doesn't get discounted very much and the coupon was about to expire.

    January 1, 2017 / 7:20 pm

Looking back at the products 5-10 years ago, the clothes are vintage/timeless. These clothes are shapeless and 70s style….definitely not something I like or would wear!

    So so disappointed!

  22. Caroline

The Painterly Buttondown looks exactly like what I wore in art class when I was 6.

  24. Katrover
    January 1, 2017 / 7:47 pm

Ugh, so disappointed again! The clothes don't even look good or flattering on the models. What is Anthro thinking! Well, the bright side is that my wallet will be safe! Pretty soon the only things I will buy from Anthro are candles. Lol

  25. Dina
    January 1, 2017 / 3:50 pm

$600 for a suede skirt? It's nice, but wow!

  26. nicolleblogs
    January 1, 2017 / 4:17 pm

The irony is that if you look at Anthro's Pinterest boards (wear to work especially) , they are filled with pins for great looking clothes/ styles that if they were to create their own version of the item/ outfits, would be exactly what (I think) many women here would jump at owning.

  27. January 1, 2017 / 9:14 pm

Not surprised to see I'm not alone in my thoughts. I'm sure there will be cute stuff but this is not the start I was hoping for!!

  28. Laura
    January 1, 2017 / 9:27 pm

    This collection is terrible.

I get it. Tropical wear is a gimme for spring. But seriously, how many people are actually considering this stuff? I live smack dab in the midwest and won't be near a beach at all in the near future. I won't buy any of this! If they offered a knee length skirt with a tropical print, I would probably consider it. And I'd pair it with a black
top and black flats so it wouldn't scream BEACH WEAR at everyone.

The accessories kill me, too. All oversized with tassels. It's one thing to offer statement jewelry, it's another to offer tacky and expensive statement jewelry. And a $400 textile clutch?! COME ON. It will hold my outlet sunglasses and $1 chapstick. Mark that down to $20 and I'll consider it.

I haven't purchased anything for the tag sale. I remain uninspired. I have been intrigued by Nordstrom's new arrivals. I got a Target winter catalog today and they have some darling new home decor as well!

  29. LoobyLibby
    January 1, 2017 / 11:11 pm

The way Anthro rolls out new arrivals is frustrating. Maybe later in the season we will see some nice things, but this preview leaves me cold. However, this past winter had a few gems and I remember feeling dismayed at the beginning.

  34. Kimberly V
    January 2, 2017 / 1:57 am

I don't see a single item that attracts me in any way- in fact I think they all look ridiculous. Are they kidding with that hideous Tied Shoulder Top and the Atlantica Pleated Slip Dress? Seriously, who selects this stuff- do they hate women? No wonder Anthro clothing sales are down. So sad…

  35. Arielle
    January 2, 2017 / 2:06 am

A lot of this ugly stuff was already trickling onto the website, so nothing new was really there to make it a sneak peek.. underwhelmed to say the least.

  36. Jules
    January 2, 2017 / 2:34 am

It's nice to LOOK at but not practical to wear. Anthropologie has severely shifted to a majority of novelty items that comprises no more than 20% of my closet. I would love to see more versatile basics again without pieces with sections of lace, or open (air holes) shoulders/sleeves on cozy looking sweaters, that doesn't make sense in the intention in the overall design.

  37. Jen
    January 2, 2017 / 3:23 am

So when does the 50% off sale start?

  38. Jen
    January 2, 2017 / 3:25 am

God this look book was horrid. Even the models can't make this stuff look good

  39. January 2, 2017 / 4:11 am

I agree with everyone's comments- These clothes are horrible! It's sad because Anthro has been my “go-to” for years but, in the last year, I haven't bought many clothes from there. There is absolutely nothing sexy or attractive about anything in this lookbook.

  40. Dina
    January 2, 2017 / 6:28 am

Anyone know the name of the black sheer short sleeved lace trimmed peasant top by Meadow Rue that's part of the tag sale? Also an open cardigan by Tiny that has lace trim in a greenish color? I found them in the store and didn't wish list them.

    • Westcoastnelly
      January 2, 2017 / 7:37 am

The open cardigan is the Rosalie Cardigan by Tiny. It ran large in my opinion, so I sized down.

Honestly the first picture made me think I was looking at one of my Grandmother's Butterick sewing patterns from 1978 or a Sears catalog, blech.

  43. Linda
    January 2, 2017 / 1:27 pm

does anyone know of a clothing store that sells the kind of clothing that Anthro was known for the past? I feel that same way everyone else feels; I miss the unique items I used to find at Anthropologie

    • Anthropolitan
      January 2, 2017 / 1:39 pm

Sundance has some overlap in style, but for the most part I've been shopping a lot of second hand. The problem with nearly every clothing company these days is that so many of them have tanked in quality right along with Anthro, so even if they could match the look of old Anthro, the quality is still lacking.

    • January 2, 2017 / 1:43 pm

I do posts to highlight some of these stores, Sundance as Anthropolitan has said, Ted Baker London is another great one, and when other stores do a line that feels Anthroesque I try to highlight them.

I'm so with you though, it would be great if ANTHROPOLOGIE would do the kind of clothing it was known for again.

  44. Linda

thank you ladies; happy new year!

  45. Catie
    January 2, 2017 / 2:42 pm

Does anyone have a 20% off coupon or a birthday discount that they aren't planning on using??

Looking to buy some older items, nothing in the new look book ; ))
My email is catieanne@cfl.rr.com if so! ??

    • Dina
      January 3, 2017 / 7:03 am

I think the 15% off birthday discount code has to be linked to the recipient's email address/Anthro account so it can't be transferred. Not sure if there are any 20% off coupons, haven't heard about any.

  46. Brandi
    January 2, 2017 / 10:46 pm

I actually bought one of the expensive Caroline Kaufman scarves…..the description said wool, acrylic…..well the 165.00 scarve was 99 percent acrylic, and I wrote a review about it online and anthro didnt “approve” my review. Be careful on quality……

  47. Emma
    January 4, 2017 / 9:35 pm

Ooh, Anthropologie just sent a free shipping code for all my order cancellations! Hopefully some of you got one too. This is a nice surprise after being disappointed. But, I'll have to think about what to get since everything is so uninspired as of late.
