10+ new arrivals I’m loving at Anthropologie right now…

The cure for the winter blahs? A pretty pink coat, of course!

Note: Thank you everyone for the continued support for my Dad! I’ve posted an update in the comments. The hospital sent me home and told me to try to rest and relax, so some retail therapy is in order.

Layering is in right now at Anthropologie and I couldn’t be more delighted! Fall is one of my favorite seasons because nothing makes me happier (clothingwise) than wearing a top under a top with a sweater and coat on top! Instead of one or two piece outfits it’s time for five or six piece looks, and that delights me to no end.

Coats are where it’s at for Anthro right now, like the newly released Astoria Embroidered Coat ($298, above). Inside, another pretty coat and other new arrivals I’m wishlisting right now…

This coat isn’t online yet, but you can see it here.

What makes a great coat? I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. For me, a great fall coat is thick enough to block the wind but breathable enough to not overheat me (a constant problem for me when the outside temperature and inside ones are drastically different). It should have some military styling to it (thigh length, straight sleeves, waist cinch) and come in a color that will work with Fall tones.

For a winter coat, my ideal day coat is one that makes me feel wrapped up in a big hug, with pretty details on the outside to cheer me up on those dreary, grey snowless days. For the evening, I want my coat to be furry or fuzzy (but not actually made from animals!), with a hint of glamour.

The shearling peacoat above, which doesn’t seem to be online yet, strikes me as an ideal day coat. I imagine pairing it with a funnelneck scarf and a cute beanie hat. I’m also loving the Armina Sherpa Vest ($158), which seems great for days when you can get away with a warm sleeveless top layer,
the Wintertide Poncho ($148) which has elegant dog walk on the beach written all over it, and the newly re-issued Dressage Sweater Coat ($188), which just makes me feel happy!

I have a ton of Anthro coats on my wishlist right now: the Reversible Hooded Sherpa Cape ($188), the Collared Sienna Coat ($258), the Amanine Houndstooth Coat ($318), the Pilcro Denim Jacket ($138), the Meryl Jacket ($188), the Folk Tale Embroidered Kimono ($148), the Embroidered Northerner Coat ($248), the Cynthia Wool Sweater Jacket ($248), the Dara Vegan Leather Jacket ($188), the Faravel Moto Jacket ($148), the Itinerary Bomber ($128), the Reversible Quilted Linen Coat ($678) and the Impresario Coat ($495), some of which I feel have to be close to hitting sale! (A promo would also do.)

What do your ideal fall and winter coats look like? Which Anthro coats have hit a home run for you?

Flowy movement that’s layerable, courtesy of the Larina Ruffle Tank ($118).

Overall Anthro’s tops continue to disappoint, but there are some beams of light among the boxy, shapeless and too short options! Take the Larina Ruffle Tank ($118, above) for instance. I haven’t met a good pleated ruffle top I don’t like, and this one seems ready to continue that streak. Tops like this look great under a long or oversized cardigan, say this Gap option for one. (We’ll talk about Anthro sweaters in the next section.)

I also really like the look of the Choral Ruffle Top ($68) though I wish it came in more color options than drab grey, and the Daisy Chain Blouse ($148) which is perhaps too tentlike but otherwise perfect. I completely adore the Purple Haze Blouse ($198) — I tried it on last week and it runs true to size and looks great under a blazer or jacket.

I don’t really have much more to say about tops…there are some interesting ideas but still way too many tentlike, oversized, boxy, or too short tops, and not nearly enough silk or cotton among the sea of viscose and rayon.

I know I’m crazy, but I adore the Audrette Sweater ($148).

Several months ago, Anthropologie sent out a survey asking customers about their feelings on some potential sweater designs. Despite roundly hating them here in the community most of those survey sweaters have shown up anyway…and they are just as insane now. Of course, taste is subjective so while I like the fuzzy petaled Audrette Sweater ($148), I realize many people will not. And so it goes for the other crazy options like the Farm Animal Pullover ($138, a no in my book) or the Julia Vest ($198, also a no).

What’s missing for me? Cardigans. V-neck pullovers. Body-skimming anything. How about for you?

I honestly can’t decide if I like or hate the Celebration Fringe Dress ($768).

In truth it seems to me like a lot of Anthro’s Fall collection is kind of out there, and I either love it or hate it with little in between, or bounce back and forth like with the Celebration Fringe Dress ($768, above). So let’s name a few more items I know I like, including the Marian Lace Column Dress ($360, a beautiful shade of red), the Candela Mercedes Boots ($368, every inch yummy!), the Dusk Songbird Hoops ($150) and the Level 99 Wild Orchid Mid-Rise Trousers ($128).
