Off Topic: Upgrade your coat collection and save 35% at Banana Republic

Thinking about spotted layers…the Spotted Cocoon Coat ($328).

The promo gods keep bestowing us with gifts meant to stock up our chilly-weather closets. The latest in discountland is Banana Republic, my second love to Anthropologie, which is currently offering 35% off and 2-day shipping using the code START at checkout!

Let’s take a look at some of their most recent goodies…

I realize that in some parts of the country it’s still way too warm to even think about long sleeves. Here in NYC the first day of fall has greeted us with a pleasant crispness that makes me want to dig out my tights! It makes me eager to see what retailers are offering for the cold days ahead.

I lurrrrve this outfit in Banana’s latest “The Edit” outfit page, this time around focusing on coats. The Fringe Sweater ($90) shown here has deployed its accents in smart places — I particularly love how the fringe on the sleeves makes it a princess sleeve in modern styling. I haven’t seen this yet in real life, nor the beautiful coat.

I have however tried on both the shirt and the crops. The shirt is a pretty good option if you need a crisp button-down. The sateen fabric is breathable and the length was good on me. (I’m 5’8″.) What I really love about it is its small collar, which makes it easy to layer under other tops. Here’s an outfit idea with the white version from my Instagram. However, this shirt is prone to chest gap. So beware when ordering — I sized up to an 8 instead of my usual 6.

The crops are the Sloan-Fit Faux-Leather Trim Ankle Pant ($90) which I reviewed fully in this post, now available in a new navy color. I’m intrigued! One can never have too many leather-trimmed pants in my opinion. Leather-trimmed anything really.

Wearing a blazer as the top layer certainly isn’t a new idea, but it’s certainly a sharp-looking one! I like to do this with my favorite past-season blazer from J.Crew. What is fresh to me about this outfit is underneath the blazer.

Come winter, I struggle with vacillating between being cold (outside) and then overheating (office) inside. So I love, love, love the Textured Sleeveless Turtleneck ($90) which seems ideal for balancing the trick of keeping all my vital organs and my neck nice and toasty, while still giving me room to breathe (literally). And who can say no to a cute full skirt with it? Do wish it came in more colors.

There are lots of pretty skirts at Banana Republic right now. I love this fit-and-flare and this flutter skirt, both of which are sadly excluded from the 35% off promo. Then there’s this fantastic leather midi, which might rival Anthro’s latest for a potential spot in my closet. I also like this front-slit pencil skirt and this utility pencil skirt.

Coat // Sweater // Jeans // Hat

That same sleeveless turtleneck from the red outfit makes an appearance in this long-proportion look which I also adore! I’m a sucker for long coats and this peacoat has my name all over it. The jeans, with their tears and strange yet magnetic paint splatters, have also caught my eye several times in-store.

Aside from the coat porn, there’s a lot more to love at BR. I recently purchased both the Damsel D’Orsay Pump ($128) in the coral and the Delphine Pump ($128) in the pink pebble, and both are already work staples. I took my usual size 9 in both. I’m rather enamored of this fringe wristlet, and from Banana’s jewelry assortment I like this triangle necklace and this one, while this sparkly bangle and this sleek one make a killer combo.

Have you visited Banana Republic lately? I’ll have some more reviews from them soon….
