Reviews: Tic-Tac-Toe Blouse, Point-De-Venise Tank, Lambent Amaryllis Blouse, Green Thumb Blouse

Oooh, Floreat. You have truly achieved cropped perfection with your Tic-Tac-Toe Blouse ($98). Now normally I’d be complaining left and right about the length of this top BUT in this case the cropped look completely works. It’s meant to be worn over a high-waisted skirt (or pants, or sailor shorts) and I just love it.

I grabbed my normal 6 and while I thought it fit fine in the dressing room I see the front flap isn’t supposed to be open. I would probably have to size up at least 1 size and maybe 2. No matter though. The print is just adorable and this top has a decidedly mid-century look to it. It’s work appropriate but could also be worked into a weekend outfit easily. This will be mine at some point. Wishlisted!

I wasn’t really interested in the Point-De-Venise Tank ($68) but goldenmeans looked pretty fantastic in it and what am I if not the occasional Anthropologie lemming? So I grabbed this deceptive cotton tank with lace overlay and tried it on in my normal medium. It’s serviceable.

I suppose that sounds like a backhanded compliment. I can’t put my finger on it but something is not quite right. My hope was to look pretty and feminine in it but I feel frumpy. The pulling under the bust is not OK with me and why is the lace overlay so much longer on me? Sale could bring a reconsideration but this one’s a pass for now.

Lil loves them some appliqued sparkly flowers this year. First the Glimmering Magnolia Dress and now the Lambent Amaryllis Blouse ($118). I have to admit that when I hear lambent these days I think Gears of War and I doubt that’s the comparison Anthropologie was hoping to draw. But the shirt looked cute on the website’s main page last week so I gave it a shot.

I tried on my true size 6. The problem with this flowy style is that if you have a larger chest it ends up looking like a muu muu. The flower is nice enough and I like the flutter sleeves a lot. The sheerness is frustrating though the material is right. There is not much hope for this shirt and me to be friends. Back to the rack. And it only gets worse…

…muu muu number 2! Aka the Green Thumb Blouse ($118). Once again this is my true size 6. I’m not even going to comment on this one — I think the pics speak for themselves. If you need me I’ll be playing shuffleboard in the back.

Roxy, thanks again for doing such a great blog. You are so much help to me… I live 4 hours away from an Anthro… gasp!!! Your reviews are wonderful and letting us know about the free shipping. I just made an order and no shipping charge is a huge savings. So… thank you very much.Deborah

I have the tic-tac-toe blouse and I looove it. It looks great on you too. I actually sized down in this blouse because I am so short waisted; I usually take an 8 and I got a 6 because in the 8 there was too much material above the waist! I think the 6 looks great on you and that you shouldn't necessarily size up. No, the pleat isn't open in the shot, but the model has no chest to speak of and also isn't moving. I wear the same size bra as you and even though the pleat would close on my top if I placed it closed, when I move it comes open a bit naturally. It probably would open up too even on the tiny model if she moved. I might add some hidden snaps to the pleat to keep it more closed…. thanks for the awesome reviews!

ha ha ha, shuffleboard. that made me laugh. i saw the green thumb blouse (which i normally wouldnt have paid much attention to) tucked into the scalloped sailor skirt on a mannequin the other day and it looked really beautiful. maybe styling like that would help it not look so muu muu-ish.

Thanks Ady! This was a requested review for Lauren and an Anonymous commenter a week or so back. I don't think I would have noticed it either — so glad they brought it to my attention.Deborah – I'm glad that the reviews help. I hope you find them accurate for your ordering needs. :)Chelsea – That's a good point. I tried this on while my sister was here and she said the same. There are a few buttons on the inset as you know so maybe I could utilize those. Thanks Betsy!

Anon – heehee, I was snickering while writing that. You're right — tucked in the blouse would look a lot better. I'll have to give that a shot next time I'm at Anthro. 🙂

I'm right with you on these tops. I bought the Tic-Tac-Toe blouse right away and just love it for its vintagey look. I have a small bust and needed to size down. Can't wait for warmer weather to wear it! The other tops appealed to me but I was disappointed in their fit – too big and unflattering. What a shame. But as we know, there's always more to come from Anthro!I was at 2 stores yesterday and they only had a few of the newest releases, nothing I had to have. I only bought a new pair of pj pants, the Mimulus Sleep Pants, which are super cute and comfy. And with free shipping I held back and only ordered the green Rainforest Morning Shirtdress since I remember liking, but not getting, the Maeshowe dress in red.

roxy, it's great to see the tic tac toe blouse look so awesome on you, because it didn't work for me at all. i sized down as much as possible and the scoopneck still sat too low (i'm a scant B cup). i was a little miffed at its thinness for the price, but if it fit me like it fit you, i would have had a hard time resisting it. BTW, i don't think the opened up pleat looks bad since it's not exposing skin. 🙂

Um. LOVE tic-tac-toe. And even though it's not yet sailing season, I've gotten two wears out of it – cost to wear will be a good one. Also, that e Point-De-Venise Tank… did you try a smaller size? It looks frump in the picture but I could see how it could be curve hugging and feminine a size down?

Ooh the Tic Tac Toe blouse looks amazing on you! I love the skirt that you've paired with it as well!

I'm not liking a low of the flowy blouses. I mean, I wouldn't mind if they were priced less, but I don't like that they don't have much shape to them. Especially because I'm petite, and I get sized out. The Tic Tac Toe Blouse looks lovely on you. I liked it when I tried it on, but didn't consider wearing it with something high-waisted. Will definitely give that a try!
