More tips and tricks for Anthropologie’s site

As we all know (and HATE), Anthropologie has recently started redirecting sold out product pages back to their homepage. I have no clue why they’re doing this and quite frankly it’s beyond annoying. Lots of times these items get inventory restocks due to returns, etc., yet the page continues to redirect.

But this post isn’t about my annoyance. We’ve got some crafty community members that have kindly shared their tips & tricks. If you haven’t read through the initial post, it’s right here. This tip comes from Glenda and involves finding reviews for items that are redirecting. My hope is that Anthropologie will not disable this function once I’ve shared it…because that would be lame.

In order to make this trick work, you’ll need to know the style number of the item you want to look up. It’s on the product page shown via arrow in the photo above. We’ll use the Openwork Vines Skirt ($128) as an example.

Using this URL as a template:

http://reviews.anthropologie.com/5310/!!!/reviews.htm

Replace the exclamation points with the style number. So for the Openwork Vines Skirt ($128) the URL would look like this:

http://reviews.anthropologie.com/5310/023030/reviews.htm

Paste the URL into your browser’s address bar and voila! Reviews appear.

Let’s try another one — the Ice-Capped Blouse (now $60) — an older item, style #913786. Once again, replace the exclamation points in the template URL with the style number so it looks like this:

http://reviews.anthropologie.com/5310/913786/reviews.htm

And once again, we’ve got reviews. Love how easy this trick is — though I never would have thought of it! Thanks so much Glenda! If you have any other tips or tricks, please share in the comments. Cheers to a wonderful community!!

Hurray! Now I can read the reviews again! It seemed like it was on a lottery for a while. Sometimes, Google would pull up the reviews, and sometimes now. I am so happy! Thank you!

Tien, I'm so excited too! I was thinking to myself the other day "with these damn redirects it would be nice if they at least left the reviews accessible." And of course the community comes through!

Thank you so much. I have wanted to see if one of my reviews made it up and unfortunately the item had sold out. Now I will check it.

Yes! I'm so happy! Now I can go look up some old stuff. On an unrelated note, I'm sad to see one of the Openwork Vines Skirt reviews mentioning how delicate the skirt is.. probably will not work with my clumsy lifestyle. Dang!

Yay! Finally! I was not about to pay shipping just to try stuff on. The redirects are beyond annoying. It finally got to me yesterday as I could not locate a cached link for the Sabine dress (I do a little thing on my blog spotting Anthro items on real people).

Taryn–I tried the open vines skirt on yesterday, and I don't think it's super delicate or anything. It's a nicely done open work crochet, not like it's a fine lace. As far as that kind of thing goes, I would say it's pretty sturdy, i.e., a small snag won't ruin the whole thing.See for yourself first before writing it off!

Thanks for the tip!I'm sorta annoyed about the redirecting thing….like really 🙁 i guess no more reviews for stuff that's been sold out..but i guess that makes sense since why try to describe/review something that no one else can get anymore? it wouldn't be helpful 🙁 but also, why redirect when you still have the page information on the website? seems like a waste of space to me…Here's another tip, keep adding stuff to your wish list in your size…sometimes when the item redirects bc it's 'sold out' doesn't mean that it's completely sold out bc it might still show as 'in stock' in your wishlist. So the page might not work but it'll turn up on your wishlist. I got two shirts in Large this way last week bc they were still available on my wish list 🙂

Here is a trick to find style numbers: If you google the item name with "site :www.anthropologie.com" after it, the search will return a link to the product page. If you click on the link it will redirect you—but if you just hover your mouse over the link (or if you right click and select "copy shortcut"), you can see the style number as part of the URL. The field is id=######. For example, for the Sabine dress, this is the cached link: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=933190&catId=CLOTHES-PETITES&pushId=CLOTHES-PETITES&popId=CLOTHES&sortProperties=&navCount=90&navAction=top&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=049&colorName=BLUE%20MOTIF&isSubcategory=true&isProduct=trueSo 933190 is the style number. Plug that into Roxy's reviews template, and voila! Reviews at http://reviews.anthropologie.com/5310/933190/revi

Hi Taryn! I'm probably the reviewer of the Openwork Vines skirt you mention in your comment. I did try it on last night in store. The SA pulled it for me from the back where they had it. I immediately noticed the big tear/rip in the overlay. I did notice when trying it on that one would have to be careful with jewelry, etc. lest you get a pull and/or tear. It's not overly deicate, but for my lifestyle i would worry a bit that I would snag the overlay. On a side note, when I pointed out the hole/tear, the manager went and grabbed more of the skirts from the back, and another one had a tear. Maybe they were just not packed well, or maybe people were careless with them when hanging, etc. I do think the skirt is really pretty and nice, and worth a shot.
