Styled: The Bustling Avenues Dress

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

This post is for Rosa in DC, who wanted some winterized options for the Bustling Avenues Dress ($148, review here).

This dress brings out the eccentric in me. For this first look my friends allowed me to pick out a crazy necklace and some bright flats (note: the flats are technically “red” but looked very orange to me in real life). Then we balanced the look out with black, black and black. We chose a cardigan that goes a bit below the waist since the dress has such a tiny waist itself. You could belt the cardigan, however because of the number of elements already in this look we left the belt out. And the coffee is a nod to World Aids Day — Starbucks is donating $0.05 for every coffee purchased today to the Global Aids Fund.

In this outfit:
Bustling Avenues Dress ($148)
Prairie Rose Cardigan ($88, review here)
Frills-And-Frost Coat ($298)
Sam Edelman Delancey Ballet Flat (now $72)
Clouded Moon Bag ($158)
Carved & Molded Necklace ($298)
Bewitched Magnolia Posts ($28)

Just call this the aspirational outfit. The black theme continues in this second outfit. This time the goal was not to cover the dress up, hence the turtleneck. Although the jacket is ridiculously expensive our goal was more to show our love of toggles and the option that they present — revealing a bit of the dress through a partially opened coat on warmer days. We’ve got both flat and heeled shoe options in the mix here. The heeled option makes this outfit more date/going out appropriate. This dress is such a star by itself that it doesn’t need a lot of showiness with it. If you’re looking for colors to pair with it navy blue, green and white are all good options.

In this outfit:
Bustling Avenues Dress ($148)
Tissue turtleneck long-sleeve tee (now $30)
Burberry Duffle Coat ($900)
BC Footwear Women’s Bicycle Built For Two Flat ($45)
Maiya Platform Pump ($100)
Old & New Necklace ($38)
Bewitched Magnolia Posts ($28)

I have quite a few additional requests in the queue, but keep ’em coming. My friends and I are really enjoying putting these outfits together. Hope you’re liking them too!

That is a great dress! When you get a chance, would you be willing to try on the great heights dress? I am so curious about it. It looks like a perfect work/ fun dress, but it could also look completely dowdy.

Roxy – I love your styling ideas! So, if you're still taking suggestions,I just purchased the Millbrook Cardigan (on impulse!) and am now not sure what to wear under it. I am typically pretty casual – dress pants for work and jeans on weekend – but can't figure out what to put under it besides a plain black tee! Can you help?! Happy Holidays!

Sorry – OT! Roxy have you ever seen the Millbrook cardigan IRL? I just ordered it on sale and was a bit unsure as to size.

PFP, I tried it on quickly at one point and found it TTS. It is very tailored at the waist, actually makes a very pretty shape on. I also found it itchy though so be prepared to wear something long-sleeved underneath it.

Third request for styling the Millbrook Cardigan! I bought it on a whim at the store due to the encouragement of a friend. I'm hoping to pull it off as a retro-collegiate-preppy sort of look, but I'm deathly afraid I might accidentally look like a spinster in it. So far I've worn it with dark pencil skirts (like they have in the online picture), and a navy v-neck mini dress. Other styling suggestions are much welcomed!

That's Roxy!! I *think* I bought the right size. I hope it's purdy in real life!
