Oh Canada!

Good news for Anthropologie fans in Canada! The brand will be opening its first store for our neighbors to the North soon. The first Canadian store will open in Toronto, and from the sound of this article in the Toronto Star, more stores will follow:
An uncertain retail climate hasn’t stopped Anthropologie from forging ahead with a planned expansion to Canada. The U.S.-based chain has just signed a deal to open a 12,000-square-foot store on Yorkville Ave., and more Toronto locations are in the works.”You will look up Bellair from Harry Rosen and that’s what you’ll see – Anthropologie,” says Jane Baldwin, vice-president of retail leasing and investment sales at Lennard Commercial Realty.Anthropologie was founded in 1992 and now has more than 100 U.S. stores. It offers a romantic boho mix of clothing and decor in a homey environment. Merchandise is aimed at an older customer than parent company, Urban Outfitters.Anthropologie, along with a two-storey Sunglass Hut and an 8,500-square-foot Teatro Verde flagship, will be part of the 100 Yorkville at Bellair condominium project.More than 500 new luxury condominiums are being built on this stretch of Yorkville Ave. alone, with many more in the surrounding blocks at or near completion. No store opening date was provided. I can’t imagine they would post a story like this more than 6 months in advance of the store opening.
